Seymour Goes to Gastown

Seymour wondered if he was being discriminated against as he boarded the "Hop On Hop Off" tour bus, (who's ever seen a snail hop?), however, he found a spot where he would have a clear view during the journey and was pleased to find himself in Vancouver's historic Gastown in just two shakes of a snail's tail.




















First Seymour visited the famous steam powered clock...























... it was immaculately maintained, had an interesting history, and it's wonderful chime sounded every 15 minutes amidst plumes of steam.




















Seymour attempted a friendly chat with a salmon he met on Water Street, but the hardnosed creature refused to make eye-contact, instead it stared blankly straight over Seymour's head, and to add insult to injury the rude fellow spat at poor Seymour.









By this time Seymour was feeling dejected and this probably affected his impression of the man after whom Gastown was named. Although the plaque in front of Gassy Jack proclaimed him to be an adventurer, riverboat pilot and captain, and a saloonkeeper famous for long-winded monologues, Seymour thought he was a bit of a stiff.







He had to admit that Gastown itself was lovely, even though the businesses hung their colourful salad fixings high in the air, far out of a hungry snail's reach.
